State Games of Mississippi 2015

In 1992, the birth of the State Games of Mississippi elevated the spirit of amateur athletics in Mississippi. During all four weekends in June, the State Games of Mississippi brings together amateur athletes of all ages and abilities from across Mississippi.  It provides the benefit of physical activity and the opportunity to share an Olympic experience. Winners during the State Games are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. The State Games strives to instill pride in personal achievement, physical fitness, and teamwork.

In 2010 there were more than 5,000 athletes competing in 28 sporting events. Patterned after Olympic competition, the event comes complete with Opening Ceremonies, including the lighting of the torch and a parade of athletes. Opening Ceremonies was held in downtown Meridian for a third year. The event attracted one of the largest crowds ever for the Parade of Athletes and a magnificent fireworks show. Events were held in fifteen counties and press coverage of the Games throughout the state was better than ever.

The State Games of Mississippi is a not-for-profit organization and is primarily funded through sponsorships and contributions. 2011 will mark a huge achievement as this event gears up for the 20th Anniversary. We hope to make this year a true celebration of all that has been accomplished.
